    No. 3 USC Extends Lead At Stanford Intercollegiate

    Freshman Kyung Kim fired a 5-under 66 while sophomore Doris Chen was under par as well as No. 3 USC extended its lead on the second day of the Stanford (Calif.) Intercollegiate on Saturday (Oct. 20).

    USC is a combined 3-over 571 (286-285) after its 1-over second round and leads second-place Washington by four strokes and Oklahoma State and Oregon State by six.

    Kim claimed the solo lead at 4-under 138 (72-66) while Chen is tied for second at 3-under 139 (69-70). Joining them in the top 10 is junior Sophia Popov, who is tied for eighth at even 142 (70-72).

    Kim had a seven-birdie round, including a 3-under back 9. Chen registered her typical steady round with 17 pars and birdie on 16. Popov was 3-over after six holes but registered a 2-under back 9.

    Rounding out the Trojans is junior Rachel Morris, tied for 76th at 14-over 156 (79-77) and freshman Kim Santiago, tied for 80th at 15-over 157 (75-82).

    Action concludes Sunday.
