    Sophomore Robynn Ree fired a 1-under 70 to lead the short-handed No. 3 USC women’s golf team after the first round of play at the Stanford Invitational hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice at the Stanford Golf Course on Friday (Oct. 14).

    The Trojans finished the first 18 holes tied for fourth with host Stanford at 4-over 292, seven back of first-place Northwestern (1-over 285). UCLA is second at 3-over.

    USC is playing with only four players (and without a drop score) as a trio of seniors – Karen Chung, Gabriella Then and Tiffany Chan – are en route to Florida for the second stage of the LPGA’s Q school.

    Ree was 1-under going out and even coming home with five birdies on the day for her 70, three back of the lead. She is tied with Andrea Lee of Stanford, Stephanie Lau of Northwestern and Lilia Vu of UCLA.

    Redshirt senior Victoria Morgan is tied for 18th at 2-over 73. She started off play with a birdie on 1 and ended the round with four birdies.

    Freshman Allisen Corpuz tied for 26th at 3-over 74. She was 4-over through 10 but finished the back 9 at even with a birdie on 16. Senior Elizabeth Doty tied for 40th at 4-over 75 and had two birdies on the day.

    Action continues Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and on Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
