    Juniors Sophia Popov and Rachel Morris fired rounds of 69 and 70, respectively, to lead the No. 3 USC women's golf team as it combined for the second-low round of the day, leaving it in second place after 36 holes Monday (Sept. 10) of the College of Charleston "Cougar Classic" at the Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston, S.C.

    The Trojans are a combined 8-under 568 (285-283) after the first two days of the event. They entered the second round with a one-stroke lead, but fell behind a hot-playing Florida team that combined for a 9-under day. The Gators are 11-under overall.

    Popov had three birdies without a bogey Monday to move to 5-under 139 (70-69) and is tied for third, four off the lead. Her 69 is the 12th of her career and leaves her three short of the school record, held by Jennifer Song.

    Morris moved into a tie for 12th at 2-under 142 (72-70). Her second round, which featured five birdies and three bogeys, tied her second-best round of last season.

    Sophomore Doris Chen is tied for 14th at 1-under 143 (72-71) after a three-birdie day Monday.

    Freshmen Kyung Kim (144-71-73) and Kim Santiago (150-73-77) are tied for 22nd and 63rd, respectively.

    Final round action begins at 9 a.m. ET Tuesday.
