Freshman Amy Lee and junior Kyung Kim won their final match-ups while junior Annie Park halved hers and the No. 1 USC women's golf team held the decisive edge on tiebreakers to win the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic for the second year in a row at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., on Sunday (March 29).
The Trojans, who sneaked into the top bracket Friday, tied for seventh, before defeating top seed UCLA, 3&2, and then defeated Duke, 4&1, on Saturday, squared off against the host Bulldogs today and came back after trailing for much of the day.
USC held the tiebreaker, 8-5, with the larger differential in matches won.
Lee won her match decisively, 6&4 over Roclo Sanchez. Kim then edged Sammi Lee, 2&1, for USC's other point. Sophomore Karen Chung fell, 2&1, to Harang Lee while sophomore Gabriella Then lost to Manuela Carbajo, 3&2.
Park trailed in her match for most of the back 9 until she was able to halve it with a par on 18.
The win is USC's fourth this year, second in a row, and the fifth straight top 2 finish and seventh overall.
