Stanford Leads by Two Strokes after Round One of NCAA West RegionTUCSON, Ariz. - The Stanford Cardinal fired a first round total of 1-under-par 287 and leads second place Washington by two strokes after the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf West Regional Championships, which was held today in sunny and hot conditions at the Randolph Park North Golf Course (Par 72, 6,012 yards). The Cardinal recorded the only sub-par team total of the day, as the Huskies fired a second-place score of 1-over-par 289. Arizona State sits in third place at 2-over-par 290 and New Mexico State is in fourth at 5-over-par 294. San Jose State rounds out the top-five at 6-over-par 294, while defending NCAA champion and host Arizona is tied with Tulsa for sixth place at 7-over-par 295. Individually, San Jose State's Janice Moody and Washington's Dodie Mazzuca are tied for first after firing 3-under-par 69s. Pac-10 champion Mhairi McKay is in third with a 2-under-par 70, followed by a trio of golfers that are tied for fourth. Included in that grouping is ASU's Je'ne-Marie Busuttil, New Mexico's Megan Benn and Tulsa's Filippa Helmersson, all of which fired a 1-under-par 71. Defending NCAA Champion and No. 1 ranked Marisa Baena (Arizona) is among a group of eleven players that are tied for seventh with scores of even-par 72 -- three shots off the pace established by Moody and Mazzuca. The second round of the three-round tourney takes place tomorrow, May 9, with 18 holes of play. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. with players teeing off from the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
