SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- USC rowing's Varsity Eight made the best of the final day at the 2002 San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday, April 7, on Mission Bay. The Trojans' V8 won the Petite Final to place sixth overall, while the Novice Eight crew finished in 12th place after crossing the finish line sixth.

In an afternoon race, the Varsity edged Oregon State by four seconds to finish first in a time of 6:45.96. The Beavers crossed the line in 6:49.62, followed by Texas (6:53.52), Clemson (6:53.87), Miami (6:57.49), Navy (7:06.43) and Tulsa (7:11.73).

The Novice made their first-ever appearance in the Novice Eight Petite Finals to also compete for places seven through 12. Stanford finished first in the race in a time of 6:59.7 to earn seventh place, while USC trailed in a time of 7:29.48.
