REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - The 15th-ranked USC women's rowing Varsity Eight boat upset seventh-ranked Stanford in a dual race held Saturday morning at Redwood Shores. The teams raced a total of four boats -- Varsity Eight, JV Eight, Novice Eight, Varsity Four -- as the Cardinal garnered victories in the three other races.

At the start of the first race, conditions were flat with a slight crosswind from the port for the Varsity Eights. USC and Stanford paced each other for the first 1000 meters, then the Trojans began to pull away. USC was out in front by three seconds at the 500-meter mark and crossed the finish line in a time of 6:47.22, six seconds ahead of Stanford (6:53.87).

The Cardinal led from the start in the JV Eight, Novice Eight and Varsity Four races. Facing a direct headwind in the JV8 race, Stanford finished in 7:13.53 and the Trojans followed in 7:27.26. Conditions were calm at the start of the third race and Stanford's N8 crossed the line nearly 15-seconds ahead of USC (7:45.05). In the final race of the day, the Cardinal tripled their four-second lead taken the start for a final time of 7:58.30, 12-seconds ahead of the Trojans (8:10.27).
