Rowing Defeats Loyola Marymount, Convincingly

April 26, 2003

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. - USC rowing defeated Loyola Marymount in a JV Eight dual race Saturday morning at the LMU boathouse in Marina del Rey. Despite sending a mix of novice and experienced rowers to compete against the Lions' JV Eight crew, the Women of Troy jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

"I was really happy with their performance," said USC novice coach Craig Webster, who was pleased with the convincing victory. "We got out to an early lead and continued to move away."

After the race, the two teams raced smaller pieces for practice, with the Trojans winning all three.

The Women of Troy will hit the water again tomorrow. USC will face Stanford in a key dual meet at the USC Boathouse on Sunday. The Trojans will race four boats -- Varsity Eight, JV Eight, Varsity Four and Novice Eight -- and the first race will begin at 10 a.m.
