Peter Vescovi begins his second season as an assistant coach for the USC rowing program.
For the previous four years (1997-2000), Vescovi served as the head coach of the Long Beach (Calif.) Junior Crew Club. His boys and girls squads competed at events such as the San Diego Crew Classic and Brentwood Regatta held yearly in Canada where the team finished second in 1999, and third in 2000.
Under his leadership, the boys fours claimed the national championship in 2000, and the girls fours in 1998 and 1999.
Prior to joining Long Beach Junior Crew, Vescovi spent one season (1995-96) coaching the Long Beach State novice men. A 1990 graduate of Long Beach (Calif.) Wilson High, Vescovi rowed all four years as a prep at both Wilson and Edison High in Huntington Beach, Calif. As a senior, he was invited to row at the U.S. national team camp.
He spent the next two years (1990-92) rowing at Orange Coast College where his varsity eight squad received the opportunity to compete at the 1992 Henley Regatta in Thames, England -- one of the world’s most famous sporting events. The team finished third out of 55 competitors.
Vescovi competed at the 1996 Olympic Trials in pairs with partner John Cashman.
Born August 3, 1972, in Dallas, Texas, Vescovi currently resides in Long Beach with his dog, Durango.
