Ashley Corral Wins 3-Point Championship At Final Four|
March 30, 2012
USC senior Ashley Corral put her 3-point shooting skills on display for a national audience on March 29. At the State Farm College 3-Point Championship at the Final Four in New Orleans, USC's all-time career leader from beyond the arc blasted her way to the title in the women's competition.
Corral pushed through the first round of eight competitors and then rocked her way through the semifinals to reach the final. In the championship round against Louisville's Becky Burke, Corral displayed her hot hand and nailed a 20-11 victory to claim victory, capping off her Trojan career as a champion on live TV. As the 2012 women's champ, Corral turned right around to take on the men's victor, John Shurna of Northwestern. Shurna came through with the Battle of the Sexes win by scoring 24 points in the shoot-out to Corral's 14.
With 292 career threes nailed as a Trojan, Corral stands as USC's all-time career leader in 3-pointers made and is second all-time in the Pac-12 Conference. With her 2012 selection to the All-Pac-12 Team, Corral has her third straight pick to the all-conference team to go along with All-Freshman Honorable Mention earned in her first season at Troy. In her senior season, Corral drained 69 three as she averaged 11.9 points per game overall, and posted a team-high 12.7 points per game during Pac-12 play. She stands third all-time at USC in career assists (466), 11th all-time in career points (1,542) and is a leader in games played (128). In 2010, she landed a spot on the Pac-10 All-Tournament Team, and she was named to the 2011 WNIT All-Tournament team last season.
