Simon, Jaco and Moore Land All-Pac-12 Honors|
Feb. 28, 2017
As the Pac-12 Tournament looms on the horizon for the USC women’s basketball team, three Women of Troy will carry All-Pac-12 honors with them into tournament play this week. Junior forward Kristen Simon has landed a spot among the conference’s top-15 players as a member of the All-Pac-12 Team. Senior guard Courtney Jaco has earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention as well as All-Defensive Honorable Mention. And freshman guard Minyon Moore has locked in a spot on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
USC’s leading scorer and rebounder, forward Kristen Simon has collected her first-ever All-Pac-12 honors with this year’s selection to the elite All-Pac-12 Team. She was a Pac-12 Player of the Week earlier this season, and has registered 10 double-doubles in her junior season to date. Named the MVP of the Great Alaska Shootout earlier this season, Simon has continued to produce big games for the Trojans. She set a new career high for herself with 25 points at Washington State this year. With 19 games scoring in double figures, she has led the Trojans in scoring in 10 games and has collected a team-high rebounds in 19 games through the regular season.
Double-teaming on the All-Pac-12 honor roll this season is senior captain Courtney Jaco, who has scored her second straight All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention and first appearance on the All-Defensive Honorable Mention list. With 68 3-pointers landed this season, Jaco is four makes away from tying her personal season best of 72 — second best all-time by a Trojan — which she hit last season as a junior. While also averaging 10.8 points and 2.7 assists per game for her team, Jaco has also climbed the USC career charts as well this year, moving up from No. 5 all-time in career threes made to now rank No. 2 all-time. She’s also staked her claim as USC’s most productive all-time 3-point shooter. But her game is more than just sharpshooting, as is evident in the senior’s selection to the All-Defensive Honorable Mention list. A pesky defender, Jaco averages 1.3 steals per game while playing the most minutes per game for the Women of Troy.
Guard Minyon Moore has made some historic appearances already in her USC career. Freshly inked on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team, Moore also became the first Trojan to be selected USBWA National Freshman of the Week and to collect more than one Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award. In the numbers game, Moore was the first 20-point scorer this season (vs. UC Riverside) and also served up a whopping 11 assists (vs. Missouri State) -— the most in a single game by a Trojan since Briana Gilbreath in 2012. And at Sacramento State, the freshman dished out 15 assists — second most ever by a Trojan and the most since Rhonda Windham delivered 17 in 1982. Those efforts all came off the bench from Moore. Most recently, Moore hit the history books again, scoring 32 points to stand as the first USC 30-point scorer since 2014. She’s USC’s second leading scorer with 11.8 points per game and leads the Trojans in assists (4.0 app) and steals (2.0 spg) to date.
