USC's Cassie Harberts Named Pac-12 Player of the Week|
Jan. 7, 2013
USC junior Cassie Harberts continued her streak of double-digit scoring in leading the Trojans to a winning road sweep in USC's Pac-12 opening weekend, and in doing so the forward has earned honors as the Pac-12 Player of the Week.
Harberts started USC's first trip out-of-state with a season-high 27 points to stand as USC's only double-digit scorer in the Trojans' 56-55 come-from-behind win at Oregon State. She was just a rebound away from a double-double, and scored almost half the Trojans' points in the victory. Two days later, Harberts offered up another game-high effort with 16 points, including a 3-pointer by the post, to lift USC ahead of host Oregon in a 67-62 victory. USC's winning weekend snapped a six-game losing skid by the Trojans and puts USC at 2-0 to start conference play.
This is the first-ever Pac-12 Player of the Week honor for Harberts, who leads the Trojans in scoring, rebounding and blocks this season. The last Trojan to win the award was Christina Marinacci last season. In all, USC has claimed 43 Player of the Week honors from the conference all-time.
Harberts and the Women of Troy return home this week for two more Pac-12 clashes. USC will host Washington in a 6 p.m. game on Friday (Jan. 11) at Galen Center, followed by a Sunday (Jan. 13) matchup with Washington State at 2 p.m.
