STILLWATER, OKLA. -- The USC women's basketball team came up against a hot-shooting Oklahoma State squad on a cold night in Stillwater, with the Trojans handed their first loss of 2013-14 with tonight's 82-51 defeat at the hands of the No. 20 Cowgirls. Already off to their best season start since 1998-99, the Women of Troy were up against their first ranked opponent with this trip to Oklahoma State. USC goes to 3-1 overall with the road loss, while No. 20 Oklahoma State improves to 5-0.

The Trojans carried some of the cold night air in with them as the Trojans opened up with a cool showing from the floor while the Cowgirls started out hot. The slow going out of the gates stalled out the Women of Troy, who would fall into a 26-point hole before getting some good shots to go late in the half. OSU's 44-22 halftime lead was built on 47-percent shooting from the floor and a 10-of-12 showing at the free-throw line. USC, meanwhile, got to the stripe just twice in the half and finished the first 20 minutes of play shooting 35 percent from the floor.

The Cowgirls were able to up their scoring pace a bit more in the second half, heading to the line less but keeping the Trojans at bay as they finished off the game shooting 52 percent from the floor. USC stayed a course similar to its first half output while netting some extra free throws thanks to OSU foul trouble. In the end, the Women of Troy hit at 33 percent from the floor. The Cowgirls led on the boards to the tune of 39 rebounds to 29 from USC. Ariya Crook was USC's only player to finish in double figures with 12 on the night, while Cassie Harberts and Alexyz Vaioletama added eight each. OSU was topped by 22 from Brittney Martin, who made it a double-double with 10 boards and was joined in that column by Kendra Suttle's 10 points and 11 rebounds. Liz Donohoe and Tiffany Bias also hit double digits with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

USC wasn't able to get more than an Ariya Crook runner to go in the first five minutes of play until Harberts put one in off the glass at the 15:00 mark. Meanwhile, OSU was hitting 80 percent from the floor thanks in part to back-to-back threes from Liz Donohoe to build up a 20-4 Cowgirl advantage with 12:45 on the clock. That hole deepened down to 26 points for the Trojans when the Cowgirls followed up five straight Trojan points with a 12-0 run that made it 37-11 in favor of the home team with 4:19 to go. A Courtney Jaco three snapped over six minutes of USC scoring silence from the floor, and she'd provide another spark for the Trojans in the final minute as the Trojans crept closer on a putback from Alexyz Vaioletama and that second Jaco three after a stuff served up by Jordan Adams. That wrapped the half as a 42-22 OSU advantage.

The Cowgirls had the Trojans doubled up midway through the second half before USC managed a scoring spurt. Oklahoma's own Desiree Bradley landed a pair of free throws. Harberts delivered a stuff at one end and then converted in the paint next. She'd set up Ariya Crook for a 3-pointer later, and USC had a 7-point run going in making it 62-38 with 8:42 remaining. Unfortunately, the next eight points were tallied by the Cowgirls, and the Trojans were in deep once more. Playing in her first game as a Trojan, Kaneisha Horn dumped in three straight free throws, and Harberts delivered another to make it 76-47 Cowgirls with 3 minutes to go.

The Women of Troy now return home to take on another ranked foe on Monday (Nov. 25). No. 19 South Carolina will pay a visit to Troy for a 5 p.m. game to be televised by Pac-12 Networks from Galen Center.
