Women's Hoops Drop Final Home Game of Season 68-65

    Mar. 1, 1998

LOS ANGELES- In their final home game of the season, USC lost an 11-point lead in the second half and fell to Washington State 68-65 at the Lyon Center.

Guard Kristin Clark scored 18 points and center Adrain Williams added 16 for the Women of Troy (11-14 6-10).

SC harrassed the Cougars into 26 turnovers and only 38-percent shooting in the first half. But leading 50-39 with 12:00 remaining in the game, the Trojans became careless. WSU went on a 17-2 run to take the lead 56-52 and never trail again.

Despite the poor play, USC could have forced overtime but a Clark three-point attempt with :04 remaining missed the mark. Cougar (12-14 6-11) center Yvonne Kunze scored a game-high 20 points.

The Women of Troy travel to Arizona Thursday and ASU Saturday to conclude the 1997-98 campaign.

USC Coach Chris Gobrecht- "There's not much to say about that one. It was not a very intelligent effort on our part. Washington State did a great job of keeping their poise. We shot ourselves in the foot."

USC Guard Kristin Clark- "We got down defensively and it killed us. We forgot how we got there (in the lead). This game hurts us really bad because we had an opportunity to win and we let down. This could have been our first sweep (SC beat Washington Friday) and we let it get away."

Trojan senior Shannon Kartz was honored during pregame ceremonies. She received a large bouquet of flowers and big team hug. Her parents and fiance, Ken Bowen, were also recognized.
