THIS SEASON:
Lauren Smith-Hams begins her junior season with the Women of Troy... Was much quieter off the bench as a sophomore, but maintained a strong level of defense... A significant scoring threat who will fight for her position on the court.
IN 2000-01:
Smith-Hams appeared in 15 games as a sophomore... Averaged 2.0 points per game with a 45.5 shooting percentage for the season... Played a season-high 22 minutes against Drake (Nov. 19), shooting 66.7 percent (2-3) and adding two rebounds... Was 2-of-3 from three-point range for a season-best six points against Sacramento State (Dec. 9)... Made a career-high 3-of-6 at the line in the final minute against Cal (March 3)... Honored with the 2001 Barbara Williams Academic Award.
IN 1999-00:
As a freshman, Smith-Hams played in 27 games and made three starts as a one/two guard... She made her first start against Creighton on Nov. 26... In only her second start of the season against Sacramento State (Dec. 11), she hit 3-of-6 from three-point range to add to a season-high 11 total points... Made a season-best three steals against the Sun Devils (Feb. 19)... Hit 3-of-4 off the bench, including 2-of-2 from behind the arch for eight points against Oregon (Feb. 26)... Grabbed a season-high four rebounds against Washington (Mar. 9).
IN HIGH SCHOOL:
A 1999 graduate of Pinewood High in Los Altos, Calif., Smith-Hams was a four-year All-Private School Athletic League first team selection and a two-time league MVP (1996 and 1999)... She was named Division V Player of the Year as a senior, averaging 22.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 7.3 assists per game... During the 1999 season, she made 100 three-point shots... She graduated as Pinewood's career leader in scoring, assists and steals... In her junior and senior seasons, she was an All-State Division V first team selection... Was honored as Pinewood's Athlete of the Year after her final season.
PERSONAL:
Lauren Wise Smith-Hams was born on June 17, 1981, in Los Altos, Calif. ... The daughter of Denise Smith-Hams and Steve Hams, she has two sisters, Brett and Taylor... Her father, Steve, was one of the founders of the now-defunct American Basketball League... She is a business administration major with an emphasis in cinema and television... Following graduation, she hopes to pursue her MBA.
