Símone Jelks is healthy and ready to get back in the game for USC. She enters her second season with the Trojans as one of several young post players set to springload USC's inside-outside game.
2004-05 FRESHMAN SEASON
Jelks' first collegiate season was hampered somewhat by hand and knee injuries, as the highly touted freshman appeared in just 15 games for the Trojans, averaging 5.6 minutes per game... Her collegiate debut came against Oregon on Jan. 2 when she played four minutes and added two points from the free-throw line in the win... Her first collegiate field goals came the very next game against Oregon State on Jan. 4, when she scored six points in eight minutes on the floor... Pulled down a season-best four rebounds and had four points against Stanford on Jan. 22... Averaged just over a point per game after scoring in five games and shooting 42.9 percent from the floor.
Jelks is a 2004 graduate of Charles F. Brush High in Lyndhurst, Ohio... A four-year basketball letterwinner who also lettered two years in golf, she played No. 3 on the boys team in 2001 as a sophomore and No. 1 on the girls team in 2002 as a junior... In basketball, she averaged 21.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game as a senior... Completed her career as Brush High's boys and girls career scoring leader with 1,397 points... A 2004 McDonald's All-American nominee and 2003 Adidas Top 10 Camp selection... A two-time (2003, 2004) Western Reserve Conference North Division MVP and first-team
all-conference selection... Selected to the Ohio North/South All-Star team and Ohio/West Virginia All-Star game... Also named to the 2004 Associated Press Division I All-Ohio third team, All-Northeast Lakes District Division I first team, The Plain Dealer All-Cayahoga County All-Star team and The News Herald first team... Named Street & Smith All-American honorable mention as a junior... Played AAU basketball for All-Ohio Black (2002-03), along with current teammate Jazlyn Davis... Also a standout in the classroom, where she earned various academic accolades, including conference All-Academic, 2004 Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Gold Scholar, two-time Who's Who Among American High School Students, 2003 Kodak/Rochester Young Scholars Award, 2002 WKYC Channel 3 Leadership Award, National Honor Society member and a four-year honor roll student.
