    USC Defeats Cross-town Rival UCLA 60-56

    LOS ANGELES -- USC behind the play of guard Kristin Clark defeated cross-town rival UCLA 60-56 in a hard-fought game tonight before 3,928 at Pauley Pavilion.

    Clark poured in a game-high 23 points on 10-of-20 shooting to pace the Women of Troy. All-America candidate Tina Thompson had an off-night scoring, hitting only 4-of-10 shots, but she led USC with 15 rebounds.

    In the first half the Bruins took a 34-30 lead over the visiting Trojans, limiting USC to 38.7 percent shooting from the field. In the second half, the Women of Troy outscored UCLA 30-22, holding the Bruins to only nine field goals.

    UCLA was paced by guard Melanie Pearson, who was the only Bruin to reach double-figure scoring with 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the floor.

    USC returns home to the Lyon Center to play Oregon State at 7:30.
