    USC Wins Home Opener Against UCSB

    LOS ANGELES -- The USC women's basketball team got 31 points and 14 rebounds from senior forward Tina Thompson and managed to outlast the 3-point shooting of UC Santa Barbara guard Erin Alexander to defeat the Gauchos 98-92 in overtime Thursday night at the Lyon Center in USC's home opener.

    Alexander scored 40 points and was 8-for-12 from 3-point range. Her four-point play with 1:50 left gave the Gauchos a 79-76 lead and she later hit a jump shot to give them an 82-80 advantage with 38 seconds left. USC sophomore guard Kristin Clark then hit a 12-footer to tie the game with 14 seconds left and send it into overtime.

    In overtime, sophomore forward Jodi Parriott scored seven of her 20 points as the Trojans took an early lead and went on to the win.

    USC senior center Michelle Campbell had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

    Forward Amy Smith had 20 points and 20 rebounds for Santa Barbara.

    USC moves to 4-2 while Santa Barbara falls to 4-3. USC next hosts Long beach State Saturday at the Sports Arena at 1 p.m.
