    USC's Thompson is a Naismith Award Candidate

      USC's Tina Thompson (Sr, Inglewood, CA) is a candidate for the 1997 Boost/Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year award.

      Thompson, an offensive force (averaging 19 pts and 8 rbs) up front, ranked in the top ten in voting among the nationwide candidates for college basketball most prestigious individual award.

      Tina returns for her senior season as the Pac-10's top active scorer (1595 career points) and rebounder (862). She spent this past summer touring with the Team USA Jones Cup squad, which is considered one rung below the U.S. Olympic Team.

      Among the illustrious list of former Naismith winners is Trojan all-time great Cheryl Miller, who recieved the Award three times.
