LOS ANGELES - USC senior driver Marko Pintaric, who hit the game-winning two-pointer that lifted the Trojans to their first-ever NCAA men's water polo championship earlier this month, was named the National Player of the Year today by U.S. Water Polo. In addition, co-head coaches John Williams and Jovan Vavic were named the National Coaches of the Year.
Seven Trojans were named All-Americans. Previously, the most All-Americans USC had ever had in one season was six in 1987.
Pintaric was the only Trojan selected to the seven-member All-American first team.
Two Trojans, sophomore driver George Csaszar and junior 2-meter man James Castle, made the All- American second team. Junior goalie Richard McEvoy made the third team for the second straight season.
Freshman 2-meter man Ivan Babic, junior driver Allen Basso and junior 2-meter man Peter Janov were all named to the honorable mention team.
Csaszar led the Trojans in scoring with 60 points while Pintaric had 56 points.
