Kostas Genidounias Helps Greece To Quarterfinal Slot|
Aug. 12, 2016
A three-time NCAA champ and Cutino Award winner as a Trojan, Kostas Genidounias has helped guide Team Greece to a strong showing in group play, as another win today has the Greeks atop the group standings with just one game left in group action. Behind a goal from Genidounias, Greece was able to tack up a solid 9-4 win over host Brazil, which had been the group leader.
Also in action in Rio today were two other countries boasting Trojans on their rosters. Team USA — featuring current USC goalie McQuin Baron and incoming freshman Thomas Dunstan — took an 8-5 loss to Montenegro today to fall out of the running for advancement out of group play. With just two points and just one game left, the United States will not be able to finish in the top four of its group.
Four-time NCAA champion and another Cutino Award winner, Joel Dennerley is back capped up for Australia in his second Olympic Games. Today, the Aussies tangled with Serbia in an important group match. Dennerley hauled in a whopping 11 saves for Australia on the defensive end, but the team couldn’t match the firepower of the Serbs as Australia took a 10-8 loss. With three points in the group and a matchup against Greece ahead, the Aussies will have a tough time making it out of their group.
