Former USC Player Mike Howell Dies|
Jan. 20, 2009
Former USC men's water polo player Mike Howell passed away on January 10 in Newport Beach, Calif., at the age of 44. A two-time All-American during his playing career as a Trojan, Howell stands as USC's No. 15 all-time scorer after scoring 121 goals at Troy from 1982-1985.
A lefty from Newport Beach, Howell was a full-time starter and earned NCAA All-Tournament honors as well as two All-American awards. He also competed for the United States National Team and at the 1985 World University Games in Kobe, Japan. In his senior season at USC, Howell scored 59 goals - a mark that still stands as the ninth most goals ever scored by a Trojan in a single season.
A memorial service for Howell was held January 16 in Orange County.
