Men's Water Polo Edges No. 5 UCLA
LOS ANGELES --- Senior driver Mateo Juric scored three goals, two in the fourth quarter, to help rally the No. 4 USC men's water polo team to an 11-10 victory over No. 5 UCLA at the McDonald's Swim Stadium on Saturday.
The Trojans improved to 17-6 overall, while the Bruins fell to 13-10 in the regular-season finale for both teams. The two schools will meet again on Friday (Nov. 28) in the first round of the MPSF Tournament at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
UCLA had a strong first half, led by junior driver Matt Armato's pair of two-point goals, and took a 7-5 lead at halftime. The Trojans tied the score, 7-7, in the third quarter on freshman 2-meter man Sean Hylton's goal before UCLA junior 2-meter man Aaron Harries scored to give the Bruins an 8-7 lead heading into the final period.
The Trojans then came out on fire, scoring three goals in the first three minutes to take a 10-8 lead. The Bruins made it 10-9, but Juric scored to give the Trojans an 11-9 lead with 27 seconds left. The Bruins managed to score just one more goal in the final seconds.
