No. 2 USC Men's Water Polo Falls to No. 1 Pepperdine 12-10
LOS ANGELES - Pepperdine junior 2-meter man Jeremy Pope scored an impressive seven points to lead the top ranked Waves to a 12-10 victory over the No. 2 USC men's water polo team on Saturday st the McDonald's Swim Stadium.
Junior goalie Merrill Moses had 11 saves for the Waves, who improve to 1/-1 overall and 5-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. USC, which was led by senior driver Simun Cimerman's four points, fell to 11-4, 1-2.
USC started off well, taking a 3-0 lead, though Pepperdine came back and went ahead 5-4 in the second quarter on a Pope goal. Cimerman then scored USC's next four points to help the Trojans to an 8-7 lead with 1:23 left in the third quarter.
From then on, it was all Pepperdine, as Chris Tilden tied it at 8-8 and Alex Rodriguez then gave the Waves the lead for good with 31 seconds left in the third quarter.
USC hosts UC Irvine on Sunday (Oct. 26) at noon.
