IRVINE, CALIF. -- The No. 1 USC men's water polo team kept its undefeated 2012 record safely intact with a decisive MPSF win at No. 8 UC Irvine tonight. In the Trojans' ninth straight game away from home, USC took control in the first half, allowing just three goals by halftime while Kostas Genidounias led USC with a hat trick at the half on his way to a four-goal day in an eventual 18-7 USC win over the Anteaters. USC improves to 18-0 overall and 4-0 in MPSF play with tonight's win.

Jeremy Davie started it all up for the Trojans with a score on USC's first possession of the game, and fellow Aussie Mace Rapsey added to the count soon after. UC Irvine would close the gap to 2-1, but the Trojans plugged in scores from Kostas Genidounias, Matt Burton and Marc Vonderweidt around one from the Anteaters to take a 5-2 lead into the second period of play. Only one UCI goal would make it through the Trojan defense in the second, as Michael Rosenthal and Zach Lucas got in on the the scoring action to go with two more from Genidounias and a pair from Nikola Vavic in that frame for a daunting 11-3 USC halftime advantage.

In the third, it was Rex Butler and Stephen Siri's turn to blast a pair apiece to help USC outpace the Anteaters to the tune of a 15-6 lead entering the fourth. There, the Trojans worked even farther ahead on Genidounias' fourth of the night, and another from Lucas and Vonderwiedt as USC wrapped up an 18-7 road win over UC Irvine.

The Trojans now return home for two long-awaited matches at McDonald's Swim Stadium. On Saturday (Oct. 27), USC will host No. 7 Pacific at 2 p.m. and Cal Lutheran at 4 p.m. for a double-header to wrap up a busy week.
