Men's Water Polo Wins Southern California Tournament

Irvine, Calif. - The No. 4 USC men's water polo team exploded for six goals in the third quarter to beat No. 3 Stanford, 9-5, in the championship game of the Southern California Tournament hosted by UC Irvine at Corona Del Mar High's Marian Bergeson Aquatic Center in Corona Del Mar, Calif., on Sunday (Sept. 17). This was the ninth straight year that the Trojans have reached the championship game and the third time that they have won the championship.

Freshman Pedrag Damjanov led USC with three goals, including two in the third period. Six other Trojans scored one goal apiece, while freshman goalie Bozidar Damjanovic had 14 saves as USC improved to 6-0 on the season.

Earlier in the day, USC defeated No. 5 UCLA, 5-4, behind junior Daniel Lontay's two goals and senior goalie Darrin Smith's five saves.

USC next plays at No. 2 UC Irvine on Saturday (Sept. 23) at noon.
