LONG BEACH, Calif. - A late goal by Peter Janov broke an 8-8 tie and gave the No. 1 USC men's water polo team a 9-8 victory over Long Beach State on Friday.
No. 1 USC took a 4-0 lead over No.7 LBSU at the end of the first period, but the 49ers fought back to take a 5-4 lead late in the second period.
The game was tied, 8-8, when Janov scored what proved to be the game-winner with 21 seconds left.
Allen Basso scored five points for USC, including a pair of two-pointers, while Janov scored twice and Jordan Hewko and Adam Guerrero each scored once.
USC improved to 1-0, while Long Beach State dropped to 1-1.
