REDLANDS, CALIF. -- The No. 3 USC men's water polo team put forth a searing performance on a sizzling day at the Inland Empire Classic today, serving up a 21-6 win over Chapman and a 24-0 shutout of Occidental in back-to-back games today in Redlands, Calif. The Trojans started the day with a 14-0 scoring surge against Chapman and wrapped the day on a 25-goal scoring run that spanned the finish of game one and the entirety of game two vs. Occidental. USC improves to 6-0 overall with today's two wins.

USC's opening high-scoring affair was paced by a five-goal outing from Matteo Morelli. The freshman almost matched Chapman's team total all by himself, but the Trojans had plenty of other hungry hands on deck. By the final buzzer, 11 different Trojans had cashed in with goals as USC swamped Chapman by a final tally of 21-6. McQuin Baron did the job in the cage, pitching a shutout in the first half for the Trojan cause and going the distance for the win. Minutes later, the Trojans would turn their attention to Occidental, which splashed down to take on USC for the first time since 2005. That year, the Trojans had rung up a 14-0 win over Occidental. This year, USC was once again up to the task.

USC was ferocious from the two-meter position in this one, with Max Hurst-Mendoza going big at set with a career-high five goals to lead the Trojans. Six other USC players tallied multiple goals in the win, while Ben Goncharenko manned the cage through an eventual 24-0 shutout victory. Kostas Genidounias was next in line with four goals, and three other Trojans finished up with hat tricks, as Lachlan Edwards, James Walters and Matteo Morelli each added three apiece against Occidental.

The Trojans have another hot one on tap for tomorrow, taking on Concordia and Air Force for two more tilts in the Redlands heat. USC faces Concordia at 11:40 a.m. and then takes on Air Force at 2:20 p.m. to wrap up action at the Inland Empire Classic.
