1999: Smith, a backup goalie, may redshirt his 1999 senior season due a back injury suffered in the spring.

Jovan Vavic Says: "Darin is very consistent, intelligent and poised. We know that he can come through in tough games."

1998: For the second straight year, Smith was a back-up to Richard McEvoy as a 1998 junior. He appeared in eight games and made 40 saves, including a career-high 11 against Pacific (Oct. 3).

1997: Smith was a quality and oft-used backup to McEvoy as a 1997 sophomore. The transfer from Golden West College had 58 saves in 14 games and led Troy in saves on seven occasions. Darin had a season-best nine saves against both UC Santa Barbara (Nov. 2) and Long Beach State (Nov. 9).

Golden West College: Smith played one year at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif., helping the school to its eighth straight state championship in 1996. He led the team in saves with 111.

High School: An All-American goalie at Marina High in Huntington Beach, Calif., Smith also earned All-Southern Section Division II first team honors as a 1995 senior and second team honors as a 1994 junior. He was also an All-Sunset League selection. He graduated with honors from Marina.

Personal: Darin is majoring in business at USC. His favorite pastimes include fishing and jet skiing. His birthdate is Feb. 15, 1978.
