    USC to Host Prestigious Southern California Water Polo Tournament This Weekend

    LOS ANGELES - Nine of the top 10 men's collegiate water polo teams in the country will be in action this Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 20-21) at the Southern California Water Polo Tournament, hosted by USC at the McDonald's Swim Stadium. All 12 teams in the tournament are ranked in the nation's top 20.

    Play will begin at 7 a.m. and conclude around 9 p.m. both days. Saturday will feature pool play, with the winners of the four groups advancing to the championship bracket on Sunday. The championship game will be held on Sunday at 4:20 p.m.

    The Trojans (1-0), ranked No. 2 in the country, won the tournament two years ago. California, currently ranked No. 1 in the nation, is also in the field. Other local schools competing are No. 4 Pepperdine, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 UC Irvine, No. 7 Long Beach State, No. 13 UC Santa Barbara and No. 18 Claremont. Other top 10 teams participating are No. 3 Stanford, No. 9 UC San Diego and No. 10 UC Davis.

    "This will be a great tournament," USC Coach John Williams said. "We have a tradition of success in this tournament, so we'd like to make it back to the championship game this year. It's an outstanding event with a lot of great water polo."

    Admission prices are $15 for adults and $7 for students for a two-day pass, and $10 for adults and $5 for students for a single-day pass. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
