The No. 11-ranked USC men's volleyball team (0-0) opens its 2014 season by hosting Canadian power Alberta (19-5) in an exhibition match at 1 p.m. PT on Tuesday (Dec. 31) in the Galen Center and then traveling to face No. 7 Loyola-Chicago (0-0) on Saturday (Jan. 4) and No. 10 Lewis (0-0) on Sunday (Jan. 5) in a pair of 7 p.m. CT non-conference matches.

Alberta is ranked fourth currently in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport poll. Loyola-Chicago and Lewis first host UC Irvine and BYU before playing the Trojans.

USC has never lost in 3 tries against Loyola-Chicago, but the teams have not met since 2001. Troy owns a 4-2 series record over Lewis, most recently posting a 3-1 victory in the semifinals of the 2012 NCAA Championships.

The USC men's volleyball team, under eighth-year head coach Bill Ferguson, is coming off a rebuilding season in 2013 after having advanced to the NCAA Final Four 3 of the previous 4 years. The Trojans are led by junior setter Micah Christenson, who started for the U.S. Men's National Team this past fall at the NORCECA Continental Championships in Canada and the FIVB Grand Champions Cup in Japan. Also back is 3-year starting libero Henry Cassiday, now a senior.
