Tri Bourne Places Second At AVP Championships
Oct. 25, 2013
Former USC men's volleyball player Tri Bourne finished up the 2013 AVP season with a second place finish at the AVP Championships at Huntington Beach on Oct. 20.
It was the second consecutive AVP runner-up finish for Bourne and his partner, longtime beach star John Hyden. The third-seeded duo, who became teammates this past mid-August when Hyden's long partnership with Sean Scott ended due to Scott's retirement, shared $13,000 in prize money in Huntington Beach. They lost in the Huntington Beach final to the fourth-seeded team of Theodore Brunner and Nick Lucena, 21-23, 21-7, 13-15.
Bourne and Hyden became a successful pairing quickly, finishing no lower than seventh on the AVP circuit in 2013. They were fifth at both the AVP Salt Lake City Open and AVP Manhattan Beach Open, then were third at the AVP Cincinnati Open. After a seventh place finish at the AVP Atlantic City Open, Bourne-Hyden had a third place showing at the AVP St. Petersburg Open and then were second at the AVP Santa Barbara Open. They collected $45,500 in AVP earnings in 2013.
Bourne, a native of Hawaii, is playing on the beach after a professionally indoor career in Puerto Rico. He was a member of USC teams that were the NCAA runnerup in 2009 and finished third in 2011 when he was a senior.
