USC senior setter Micah Christenson helped guide the No. 4-ranked U.S. Men's National Volleyball Team to the FIVB World League gold medal on Sunday (July 20), with a 31-29, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23 victory over No. 1 Brazil in Florence, Italy.

Christenson was the only collegian on the USA roster.

It was the USA's second World League championship since the tourney began in 1990, with the previous gold coming in 2008. The USA became the fourth country to win more than one World League title, joining Brazil, Italy and Russia.

The annual World League is the oldest and richest of the FIVB's international events. This year, the winning team collected $1 million in prize money.

Former Trojans Murphy Troy and Tony Ciarelli also contributed to the USA's march to the gold medal, as they participated in pool play action but neither was on the roster for the championship match.

Next up for the U.S. team will be the 4-match USA Volleyball Cup against Iran in August, including a stop at USC's Galen Center on Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. The men's roster has not been set yet, but Christenson, Troy and Ciarelli could be on it.
