Murphy Troy Repeats As MPSF Player Of The Week|
Jan. 31, 2011
USC senior opposite hitter Murphy Troy was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week for the second consecutive week today (Jan. 31).
Troy, who earned both AVCA and MPSF Player of the Week honors the previous week, continued his torrid play this past week. In USC's sweep at No. 6 UC Santa Barbara, he hit a blazing .632 with 12 kills and no errors in 19 attempts. Then, in a 4-set win at crosstown rival No. 4 UCLA, Troy had a match-best 26 kills while hitting .512 and added 5 aces and 7 digs. In the fourth set, USC trailed 11-10 before running off 10 consecutive points, the last 9 coming with Troy serving (he had 4 aces in that run, including one off the face of a Bruin passer).
He helped the No. 1-ranked USC men's volleyball team get off to its best start (6-0) since 1994.
It is the sixth time Troy has been selected MPSF Player of the Week.
