Jan. 7, 2014
USC outside hitter Lucas Yoder was named AVCA Division I-II National Player of the Week, MPSF Player of the Week and Off The Block National Freshman of the Week for his performance last week.
Yoder, a first-year freshman playing his first-ever collegiate match, had a match-best 16 kills while hitting .609 to help the No. 11-ranked USC men's volleyball team open its 2014 season with a 3-1 win at No. 7 Loyola-Chicago on Jan. 4. He had only 2 hitting errors on 23 swings. He added 5 digs and 3 blocks.
He is part of the "First Family" of USC volleyball. Six Yoders now have graced Trojan rosters over the years: joining Lucas are cousin, Jack, a first-year freshman setter on the Trojans, Jack's brother, Paul, a junior libero at USC, their uncle, Bob, (a 1977 All-American who led USC to an NCAA title that year and then in 1988 as Troy's head coach), Lucas' late father, Dave (he played on 3 NCAA Final Four teams in the mid-1980s), and their cousin, Erin (a member of a pair of recent Women of Troy NCAA Final Four squads).
