No. 8 USC Men's Volleyball Beats Concordia|

Tanner Jansen, one of five Trojan seniors honored on Senior Night, had 20 kills, 11 digs and 4 blocks to lead the No. 8-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 27-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-18 win over Concordia, the NAIA's top-ranked squad, in a non-conference match on Thursday (April 3) at USC's Galen Center.
USC improved to 16-9 overall, while the Eagles fell to 26-6. All of Concordia's losses in 2014 have come against NCAA Division I or II teams.
McKibbin had 12 kills, Cassiday had 10 digs, Booth had 7 kills and 5 digs and Andy Benesh had 8 kills while hitting .438 and he added 8 blocks.
For Concordia, Parker Del Re had 15 kills and 8 digs, Mark Metrakos had 11 kills and Brett Anema had 5 blocks.
Neither team hit well, with USC at .214 and Concordia at .144. Troy had 14.0 blocks to the Eagles' 10.0 and the Trojans served 4 aces, including a pair by Booth.
USC came back from a 22-18 deficit in the first set by tying it at 22-22 and then finally scoring the set's final 2 points (the Eagles had 4.5 blocks in the set). The Trojans scored back-to-back points to open a 6-4 lead in the second set and steadily pulled away while hitting .333 and getting 5.5 blocks. Concordia went on a 6-0 run in the third set to go up 10-8 and the Trojans could never catch up. USC scored the first 3 points of the fourth set and kept building on its lead.
USC concludes its MPSF regular season on Saturday (April 5) with a 7 p.m. match at No. 3 Pepperdine, with qualification and seeding potentially on the line for the upcoming MPSF tournament.
