No. 6 Stanford Men's Volleyball Defeats No. 7 USC|

Brian Cook had 14 kills and Eric Mochalski added 13 kills to lead the No. 6-ranked Stanford men's volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20 victory over No. 7 USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Thursday (March 27) in Palo Alto.
Stanford improved to 15-7 overall and 12-7 in the MPSF, while the Trojans dropped to 14-8 overall and 13-9 in the MPSF.
Stanford hit .311 in the match to USC's .240. The Cardinal served 11 aces and had 11.0 blocks, while the Trojans had 6 aces and 5.5 blocks.
Steven Irvin added 10 kills (hitting .438) for Stanford and he had 8 digs. James Shaw served 6 aces and Mochalski had 4 aces.
Stanford went on a 4-0 run in the first set to open an 18-15 lead and easily held on. The Cardinal used back-to-back points late in the second set to forge a 22-20 lead that USC couldn't overcome. The third set was tight throughout until the Trojans tallied the set's final 3 points. Stanford scored 3 consecutive points to go up 10-7 in the fourth set and held off the Trojans.
USC now goes to Pacific for a 7 p.m. MPSF match on Friday (March 28).
