David Vogel had 19 kills while hitting .514 to help the No. 10-ranked Stanford men's volleyball team come back and beat No. 15 USC, 26-30, 30-27, 30-23, 30-22, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday (March 26) in USC's Lyon Center.
Stanford improved to 9-11 overall and 8-9 in the MPSF, while the Trojans-who were playing their home finale of 2005-fell to 7-19 and 3-15.
Ben Reddy added 12 kills and 9 digs for the Cardinal, while teammates Craig Buell, Chris Ahlfeldt and William Clayton each had 10 kills. Buell also had 5 blocks.
For USC, Joao Grangeiro had 16 kills, 13 digs and 4 aces, while Pedro Leal had 15 kills, Chris McKniff added 13 kills (hitting .450) and 5 blocks and Fernando Barron had 11 kills and 9 digs.
USC held a 20-18 lead in the second game, but Stanford stormed back after a timeout to score the next 4 points to gain control of the game and, ultimately, the match.
USC next plays at UC San Diego on March 30 and at No. 7 Long Beach State on April 2.
