SAN DIEGO - The No. 5-ranked USC men's volleyball team, behind the hitting of Brook Billings, opened Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with road wins at San Diego State, 6-15, 15-9, 15-11, 15-10, on Friday (Jan. 21) and UC San Diego, 15-6, 15-7, 15-13, on Saturday (Jan. 22).
USC improved to 4-1 in NCAA play and 2-0 in the MPSF.
At San Diego State, Billings had a match-high 35 kills while hitting .434 and teammate Eli Fairfield added 25 kills. Donald Suxho recorded a match-best 6 aces, Trevor Julian had 17 kills while hitting .414 and Beau Rawi had 13 kills while hitting .611. Julian, Rawi and Josh Day each posted 6 blocks.
Against the Tritons, Billings again had a match-high in kills, this time with 23. Julian added 10 kills. Suxho had 10 digs, Rawi had 8 blocks and Day had 6 blocks and hit .538. USC outhit UC San Diego, .325 to .157, and outblocked the Tritons, 17 to 5.
The Trojans return to action with 7 p.m. home matches this week against
No. 14 Pacific on Friday (Jan. 28) and No. 12 Stanford on Saturday (Jan.
29) in the North Gym.
