LOS ANGELES - Junior All-American opposite hitter Brook Billings had a match-high 17 kills to help the No. 4-ranked USC men's volleyball team post the program's 200th all-time home victory with a 30-24, 30-26, 30-18 win over No. 11 Cal State Northridge in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener for both teams on Wednesday (Jan. 17) in the USC North Gym.
Troy is 1-0 overall, while the Matadors fell to 2-3.
The Trojans have a 200-60 (.769) home record in their 25-year history and now have won their last 17 matches in the North Gym dating to the 1999 season.
Senior middle blocker Donny Killian, a transfer from Pepperdine making his USC home debut whose father, sister and uncle all have played for Troy, added 10 kills.
For CSUN, junior outside hitter Eckhard Walter had 9 kills and senior outside hitter Raoul Williams added 8 kills.
USC outhit the Matadors, .536 to .288, and 5 Trojan starters hit at least .500. Troy also had decided edges in blocks (9.5 to 3.5) and aces (11 to 4).
Next up for USC is another MPSF home match this Friday (Jan. 19)
against UC San Diego at 7 p.m.
