UC San Diego Sweeps USC In Men's Volleyball MPSF Opener

The No. 14 UC San Diego men's volleyball team snapped a 7-match losing streak to USC with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-20 sweep over the No. 8 Trojans in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener for both squads on Thursday (Jan. 10) in San Diego. The Tritons improved to 2-2 overall on the year, while Troy fell in its season opener. Carl Eberts led UCSD with 16 kills while hitting .414, plus he had 9 digs and 5 blocks. Vaun Lennon and Cheyne Hayes each added 9 kills, while Fred Stahl had 6 blocks. For USC, first-year freshman Alex Slaught had a team-best 9 kills, while Robert Feathers had 7 kills while hitting .462 and Ben Lam added 6 blocks. Neither team hit that well, with UCSD at a .217 clip to USC's .112. USC next visits top-ranked UC Irvine, the defending NCAA champion, on Friday (Jan. 11) at 7 p.m. in a rematch of the 2012 NCAA Championship final match.
