John Xie is in his second season as a volunteer assistant coach for the USC men's volleyball team. He was an administrative assistant with the 2010 NCAA Final Four Trojan men.
He spent the previous 6 seasons (2006-11) as a volunteer assistant with the USC women's team. The Women of Troy advanced to the 2007 and 2010 NCAA Final Fours.
Xie, 32, has been a successful assistant coach at the national, collegiate, club and high school levels.
He spent 6 seasons (2001-06) with the Impact Volleyball Club, helping the 2005 18-1 girls team win the SCVA club qualifier. He worked with the Southern California Volleyball Club girls program from 2006 to 2010 and with the boys from 2009 to 2012. With the SCVC girls, his 15 Elite Open won a gold medal at the 2007 Junior Olympics and the 18 Nike team won a bronze in 2008. With the SCVC boys at the Junior Olympics, he won gold medals in 2010 (15s), 2011 (17s) and 2012 (17s), a silver in 2012 (18s) and bronze medals in 2009 (16s), 2010 (17s) and 2011 (16s). He also was a consultant with Top Gun Volleyball Club from 2006 to 2009.
Xie coached with USA Volleyball's girls youth programs, including with the Youth A2 team in 2007 and 2011 (the 2011 squad won a gold medal) and Youth National Team in 2009.
In the summers of 2007 and 2008, he served as a court coach for the U.S. Men's National Team, then did the same with the U.S. Women's National Team in the summers of 2009, 2010 and 2011.
He served as an assistant boys' coach at Servite High in Anaheim (Calif.) in 2000 before spending the 2002 and 2003 seasons as the assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at Fullerton (Calif.) High, where the team won its first-ever Freeway League championship both years. In 2004, he was the assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at El Dorado High in Placentia, Calif., where his squads won the Empire League championship.
He played 4 years at Hoover High (1995-98) in Glendale. After playing on the 1999 men's club team at Ohio State, Xie attended Cal State Fullerton for 2 years.
