    USC Defeats UC Irvine in Men's Volleyball 3-2

    LOS ANGELES -- Behind senior swing hitter Chris Guigliano's 31 kills, the No. 12 USC men's volleyball team spoiled UC Irvine's upset bid and won, 15-3, 15-8, 5-15, 13-15, 15-11, on Friday night at the North Gym in front of 125. USC has never lost to UC Irvine in 22 meetings.

    USC improved to 10-9 overall and 7-7 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. UC Irvine fell to 5-10, 3-8.

    In the rally-point fifth game, Trojan junior swing hitter Beau Bianchi helped USC get out to an 11-7 lead with 4 kills and a service ace. The Anteaters would close within 12-10, but kills by Callahan and Guigliano helped end the match.

    Senior middle blocker Chris Harger had a match-high 33 kills for the Anteaters. USC also got 18 kills from junior opposite hitter Brad Callahan and 79 assists and 15 digs from freshman setter Donald Suxho.

    The Trojans easily dispatched of the Anteaters in Games 1 and 2. USC hit .548 in the first game and .367 in the second, compared to Irvine's .194 and .283, respectively.

    But the Anteaters turned things around quickly, running off a 13-0 spurt and hitting .548 to help claim Game 3, and then holding on in a tight Game 4. After Irvine took leads of 7-1 and 12-5, the Trojans stormed back with an 8-0 run to take a 13-12 lead. Irvine recovered, however, scoring the next 3 points to win Game 4.
