    LOS ANGELES - USC men's tennis will host the 2003 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Western Regional Championship, Oct. 22-26 (Wednesday through Sunday) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The five-day individual event will feature the top players from California and Arizona competing in singles and doubles.

    In addition to host USC, the tournament will feature players from UCLA, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Arizona, Arizona State, San Diego, San Diego State, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, San Francisco, Pacific and Fresno State. The singles and doubles champions will earn an automatic berth to the 2003 National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship to be held Nov. 6-9 at the Michigan Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.

    The regional tournament will begin Wednesday, Oct. 22, with a singles and doubles qualifying round. Main draw singles and doubles competition begins on Thursday, Oct. 23, featuring 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams. The tournament culminates with the singles and doubles main draw championship, as well as the singles consolation championship, on Sunday, Oct. 26. The championship matches will begin at noon.

    The tournament will mark the first-ever collegiate tennis event held at the newly-opened Home Depot Center. Opened last summer, the Center is a 125-acre development, featuring state-of-the-art stadiums and facilities for tennis, soccer, track and field, cycling, volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball and other sports. The complex includes a 13,000-seat tennis stadium.

    Seventeen Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women will be taking place over the last two weekends of October. The eight regional championships sites for women will take place at Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Georgia, Western Michigan, Utah, TCU, Stanford and San Diego State. The nine regional championships for men will be hosted by Cornell, North Carolina, Memphis, Michigan State, Tulsa, TCU, UNLV, Oregon and USC.
