USC MEN
THIS WEEK - The No. 11 USC men's tennis team (15-3 overall, 2-1 in the Pacific-10 Conference) resumes Pac-10 play this weekend when it hosts Washington on Friday (April 9) and Oregon on Saturday (April 10) at Marks Tennis Stadium. The Trojans had their six-match win streak snapped last Saturday (April 3) at the hands of defending NCAA champion Stanford, which defeated USC, 6-1. On Friday (April 2), the Trojans defeated California, 4-3.
RANKINGS - USC is ranked No. 11 in the latest ITA rankings. Washington is ranked No. 15 while Oregon is not ranked. The Trojans sport two players in the top 100 of the latest ITA rankings. Sophomore Roman Kukal is No. 68 while freshman Andrew Park is currently tied for 100th. The freshman doubles pair of Ryan Moore and Nicholas Rainey are ranked 12th in the nation.
WHITE-WASHINGTON - The Trojans have dominated the series with the Huskies, winning all 13 matches the two teams have played since 1963. Last season, USC narrowly defeated Washington in Seattle by a score of 4-3.
DUCK DOMINATION - Since 1972, the Ducks and the Trojans have met only three times in the history of the two programs with USC winning all three. The Trojans defeated the Ducks, 9-0, in 1972 in the first round of the Pacific-8 Conference Championships hosted by California and again in 1974 by a score of 8-1 at Marks Tennis Stadium. Last season, the Trojans shut out Oregon, 7-0, at Eugene.
HOME COOKING - Saturday's 6-1 loss to Stanford marked only the second time in 14 matches this season that USC has lost at home. The only other home defeat came at the hands of crosstown rival UCLA by a score of 6-1 back on March 3.
USC WOMEN
THIS WEEK - The No. 14 Women of Troy (14-7 overall, 3-0 in the Pacific-10 Conference) hope to keep their perfect conference record intact as USC travels to the Pacific Northwest this weekend. USC will face three Pac-10 foes: Washington State, Washington, and Oregon in its first conference matches since Feb. 13, when the Women of Troy defeated UCLA, 6-3. USC dropped its two non-conference road matches over the past weekend, losing to California, 6-3, on Friday (April 2) and then 5-1 to Stanford on Saturday (April 3).
RANKINGS - The Women of Troy fell to No. 14 in the ITA rankings. WSU is No. 40, Washington is No. 27, and Oregon is ranked 42nd. In the individual rankings, USC has three players in the top 100. Senior Ditta Huber is currently No. 20. Junior Kara Warkentin improved to No. 53 and junior Jacqui Boyd is tied for 70th in the nation. USC's doubles team of Huber and Warkentin remains at No. 17.
HOME SWEET HOME - The Women of Troy are undefeated (11-0) at home this year in dual matches. With victories in its last three home matches of the 1998 season, USC is riding a 14-match unbeaten streak at home, dating back to April 9, 1998.
SUPER HUBER - Senior Ditta Huber, who is ranked 20th in the nation, was the one bright spot for the women's tennis team over the weekend. Playing in the No. 1 spot in the lineup, Huber defeated California's Amanda Augustus (ranked 28th) and the No. 2 player in the nation, Stanford's Marissa Irvin.
PERFECT IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST - The Women of Troy have an undefeated record in the all-time series against Washington State (4-0), Washington (6-0), and Oregon (2-0), for a combined 12-0 mark against those teams.
