WESTWOOD, CALIF. -- Two Trojans were in action in Westwood last weekend for competition at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships. Junior Michael Grant put forth an impressive performance at the tourney, posting three swift victories to work his way into the semifinals.

Grant's run would wrap up in the semis with a 6-4, 7-5 loss to San Diego's Clarke Spinosa, but he accumulated several strong victories along the way. Most notably, Grant dominated UCLA's No. 2 seeded Dennis Novikov in the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win. That had followed straight-set wins by Grant in the Round of 32 and Round of 16. Grant's fellow junior Corey Smith also hit the courts for singles play in the main draw, but fell in his opening Round of 32 match to No. 3 seeded Benjamin Recknagel of UC Santa Barbara.
