Gomez & Hanfmann Win SoCal Doubles Title
Nov. 6, 2011
WESTWOOD, CALIF. -- USC's sophomore-freshman doubles combo of Emilio Gomez and Yannick Hanfmann extended their dominating run through the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships into a championship victory at the tourney today in Westwood. Up against a Bruin team playing on their home courts, the two young and top-seeded Trojans served up an 8-4 win over UCLA's No. 2 seeded Brigham/Thompson to win the doubles title. The two Trojans had started the day with a solid 8-3 semifinal win over Concordia's Hagemann/Santarelli to punch their ticket to the afternoon's doubles final. Meanwhile, in the consolation singles bracket, USC was ensured another title on the day, as freshmen Eric Johnson and Jonny Wang squared off in that title match. After a tight first set, Johnson created some room against his fellow Trojan newcomer, claiming the consolation singles crown with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Wang today.
