Holt Advances At ITA National Indoors

    Nov. 3, 2016

FLUSHING, N.Y. — USC freshman Brandon Holt has tallied his 11th consecutive singles win to build some important momentum for the next round of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships. With this opening win in New York, Holt has earned himself a shot at a top-10 takedown. Holt will tangle with the No. 3 seed in the elite singles draw tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET.

In his debut at the competitive ITA National Indoors today, Holt was up against Cornell’s Chris Vrabel in the opening Round of 32. The Trojan freshman was unfazed by the stage at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, as he coolly dispatched his opponent 6-2, 7-5. That marked Holt’s 11th straight singles win as a Trojan, following a run to the ITA All-American consolation crown and last week’s journey to the SoCal Intercollegiate title.

The win puts Holt up against the single draw’s No. 3 seed Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest. Ranked #8 in the nation, Chrysochos will be the highest-ranked opponent Holt has faced to date in his first season as a Trojan. Holt previously topped UNC’s #10-ranked Ronnie Schneider in the ITA All-American consolation final to tally his first top-10 victory as a Trojan. Now, Holt is due to face #8 Chrysochos at 11 a.m. ET tomorrow (Nov. 4).
