Chatanooga, Tenn. - Men's tennis sophomore transfer Johan Berg won six consecutive matches to advance to the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA All-American Qualifier, but fell a victory short of a spot in the championship tourney, which concluded on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Champions Club in Chatanooga.

In search of a bid to the championship, Berg began his run in the prequalifying tournament held Oct. 4-7. There, he surpassed Chris Brown (Duke), Gorn Sterijovski (Clemson), James Cameron (Furman), Andy Metzler (North Carolina) and Matias Ormaza (Georgia State), while recording four of his wins in straight sets.

In the qualifying round, Berg managed to get by SMU's Johan Brunstrom, 7-6 (5), 6-4, in the Round of 64, but eventually was eliminated by K.C. Corkery of Stanford in the Round of 32 after retiring the match.

Berg paired with redshirt junior Daniel Langre in the doubles competition. The duo advanced to the third round thanks to wins over doubles teams from Winthrop, Georgia Tech and East Tennessee State.
