    May 22, 2015

WACO, TEXAS -- USC seniors Yannick Hanfmann and Jonny Wang bowed out of NCAA Singles competition with All-American status under their caps, taking NCAA Round of 16 losses today at Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas, to bring their USC tennis careers to a close. Both Trojans were in tough spots for today's matches, coming up against higher seeded opponents in this Round of 16, which was interrupted by a rain delay. During their time at Troy, USC captured NCAA Championships in 2012 and 2014 and reached the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2013 and this year.

    NCAA TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

Senior Yannick Hanfmann matched his career best effort in the NCAA Singles draw with his run to this year's Round of 16. In his fourth trip to NCAA action, Hanfmann had already secured ITA All-American status as a 9-16 seed in this year's bracket. Two powerful straight-set wins in the previous round had set up Hanfmann for a battle against the No. 7 seed in the draw, #6 Noah Rubin of Wake Forest, today. Rubin would work out ahead of Hanfmann in the first set, taking that one and then getting up a break in the second to pull off a 6-2, 6-4 win and move on through to the quarterfinals. The loss brings Hanfmann's illustrious Trojan career to a close, as he posted a 110-34 career singles record at Troy. A five-time ITA All-American who was instrumental in USC's 2012 and 2014 NCAA Championships, Hanfmann was the ITA Southwest Region Player of the Year this season.

Another ITA Southwest Region honoree as Most Improved Senior of the Year, Jonny Wang had his impressive USC career come to a close today in the NCAA Singles Round of 16. Having secured his first career ITA All-American status with this year's run, #45 Wang was up against #37 Felipe Soares of Texas Tech in today's Round of 16 matchup. Wang fought back to force a third set against Soares, but the Red Raider came out of the rain delay and worked out ahead of Wang to finish off a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory. In his four years as a Trojan, Wang collected a 96-32 career singles record, having gone 31-9 in his senior season at Troy.
